I was watching Season 1 of South Park yesterday, and decided to do Byrd as Kenny.
I decided to dedicate a post to show the process in which I came up with Byrd’s ‘final’ design over the years.
He initially was a drawing in paint, a joke, nothing more. I had to remove what I had him saying, due to how inappropriate it is… but I wanted to ‘freak’ out my animation II teacher by making a dead bird character, since he worked at Disney, so I tried to work out my first turn around, and that was bad… then I redid it… and over time I just kinda changed the way he looked by sketching, and even by sculpting the puppets.
Maybe I’ll post the different puppets I’ve used over the years (a total of 4 different ones).
This is the last shot I animated on “Byrd VS Gravity” with the crows.
The first shot was just me taking a picture of the set.
And the second, a still from the film.
