I’ve been itching to illustrate a children’s book, and I just happen to come up with an idea involving this whale and cat! I won’t reveal much now, but I’m really excited to mess around with the design more.
Hey guys! I was messing around with some action poses, and did a little model sheet of my Outlaw.
I’ve been trying to develop a new animation project to work on, and I’ve tossed around a lot of ideas. I messed with this guy for a bit and I don’t want to release too much information yet, but my plan is to do my next animated short with this character.
I’m going to do this step by step, and just focus on concept art and storyboarding for now… also, I am starting to tag all my work for this project as “#Sassi Outlaw”, so feel free to browse some of the work so far.
I’m really excited for this idea, but like I said, I don’t want to jump the gun (hehe)… so stay tuned! I’m sure there’ll be more visual development art sooner than later.
Mantis stuff I did this morning in preparation for when the world is controlled by these, do I say, “little buggers”.
While you are all being cooked for their dinner tea parties, I will be the lowly artist who captures their movement.
I decided that I will do some stylizations of the animal, or subject matter, that I am sketching… just to add another element to the mix and to see if I’m learning anything…
So yeah! Here are my capybaras!
Some crab sketches I did tonight.
I’m going to start doing more observational stuff like this… any requests…? haha
Okay, so while taking a break tonight to watch Frank and Ollie, I decided I was going to take advantage of all these college ruled notebooks that I had laying around, and just mess around and do a lot of gestures with marker, to try to improve my draftsmanship. I feel like I might wake up later and be like, uggh, but for what they are, and for the fact I seem to NEVER do stuff like this, these two turned out aight. So I will show them.
The first is Frank Thomas, cause that’s what I was watching…
And the second is my roommate, Eric, on his non-existent laptop..
I had a lot of blehs, and ughs, but I realize that I need to just keep doing exercises like this, and draw from life, whenever I can get a chance.
So, expect to see more life studies, etc, maybe.
“I kinda like that the marker is dying. ‘Cause you can kinda shade like… without the fear…” -quote of the night by yours truly.
Just some different concepts I sketched tonight for the rabbit, wolf, gorilla type creature I’ve been working with…
One is a female, and the other is an idea for a Chieftain, or Shaman of the tribe.
I’m going to start designing more of these creatures, and hopefully come up with a name…
Also, the other sketch is just a fun idea for maybe some pottery/use for bones… but probably not.
I had an idea for a spoof of “Clash of the Titans”, particularly Medusa.
This idea stirred up some commotion in my Animation III class… lol.
I won’t get into it.
I just wanted an excuse to do a stop motion/live action split, but I ended up doing a different idea. I am almost done editing that film, but I won’t ruin the surprise. :)
I decided to dedicate a post to show the process in which I came up with Byrd’s ‘final’ design over the years.
He initially was a drawing in paint, a joke, nothing more. I had to remove what I had him saying, due to how inappropriate it is… but I wanted to ‘freak’ out my animation II teacher by making a dead bird character, since he worked at Disney, so I tried to work out my first turn around, and that was bad… then I redid it… and over time I just kinda changed the way he looked by sketching, and even by sculpting the puppets.
Maybe I’ll post the different puppets I’ve used over the years (a total of 4 different ones).
